Super portrait. I am guessing he was wearing hi-viz, which would have been distracting, so mono is perfect.
I agree, great shot! The angle of the head somehow adds to its intensity. Whenever I see a photo that I wish I'd taken, I find myself wondering whether the Club could encourage members to reveal a little about the circumstances surrounding their published images, particularly the technical considerations such as lighting and lens choice.
That is great, Robin, I have thought that too...not only for some technical enrichment, but often to learn where some of the fantastic places are. If folks added some simple notes in this coment box with their pix, it would be both interesting and helpful.
Thank you for the kind comments.
The image was taken in Amsterdam with a Canon 650D and using a 50 mm prime lens. I was on a photography course and we were given a large sheet of white paper and sent outside to ask people to pose in front of it - so, just natural light. The post-processing is pushed quite a bit further than I would normally do with a portrait - but it seemed to work in this case.
The Essential Worker is actually someone who helps find a space for your bicycle at the university - an essential job in Amsterdam! He was very happy to pose for a photograph.
Amazing what you can do with a blank sheet of paper!
